ITX-Blades.net - HowBig is 100TeraByte ( 100TB )

HowBig is 100TeraByte ( 100TB ) in terms of "Disks Copying"
  • How Fast can the disk transfer data using standard 100MByte/sec IDE disks
    • Most real data will require head seeks and disk buffering, slowing down the thru put
    • Most IDE disk subsystems can run at 40MB/sec instead of the marketing 100MB/sec thruput

  • There is some design engineering to do to be able to transfer 100TB of data daily

Size of Data Minimum Time to Transfer the Data
100MB file 1 sec
1 GigaByte file 10 sec
10 GB file 100 sec 1.67 minutes
100 GB file 1,000 sec 16.67 minutes
1 TeraByte file 10,000 sec 166.67 minutes 2.78 hrs
10 TB file 100,000 sec 1,666.67 minutes 27.78 hrs over 1 day
100 TB file 1,000,000 sec 16,666.67 minutes 277.78 hrs over 11.5 days
1 PetaByte file 10,000,000 sec 166,666.67 minutes 2,777.78 hrs over 115 days
